Posted on: April 2nd, 2010 RADYO PIKE KOMPA/ZOUK VOLUME 1

This mix goes out to the Haiti, St. Lucia, Dominica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, and many other islands that speak what some might call Creole, others call Patois, massive. Regardless of the term, or the location, the music is sweet…even if you don’t understand what is being sung.

“Radyo Pike’ is a series of mixtapes that aim to entertain with beautiful Kompa, Zouk, Kanaval and funny skits.

Radio station 509 Kompa FM Orlando is the official live broadcasting radio station for the mix tape. The use of this station is to entertain and keep you updated about whats going on in America and specifically Haiti today. It is the intent of the producers, that mix tape can grow into something even bigger with more issues and stronger topics. Haiti Baby, creator of the mix tape saga will be your offical DJ.

Overall… Planet Kompa mixtapes are here to just keep you groovin to the best in Kompa, Zouk, and Kanaval. Stay posted for more updates. Enjoy!!!!!”

According to Wikipedia…Antillean Creole is a French-lexified creole language spoken primarily in the Lesser Antilles. Its grammar and vocabulary also include elements of Carib and African languages. Antillean Creole is related to Haitian Creole, but has a number of distinctive features. The language was formerly more widely spoken in the Lesser Antilles, but it has mostly vanished from Tobago and the number of speakers is declining in Grenada. While the islands of Dominica and Saint Lucia are officially English-speaking, there are efforts in both countries to preserve the use of Antillean Creole and in recent decades, it has gone from being seen as a sign of lower socio-economic status to a mark of national pride.

Since the 1970s there has also been a literary revival in French islands, with writers such as Edouard Glissant and Raphaël Confiant among others.

Dominican speakers of Antillean Creole call the language Kwéyòl.[2] Antillean Creole is spoken, to varying degrees, in Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Barthélemy (St. Barts), Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago. Antillean Creole has approximately 1 million speakers.

It is a de facto means of communication for migrant populations traveling between neighbouring English- and French-speaking islands.
